Doi Suthep Once you’re up the mountain, you’ll see a large cluster of souvenir stands and stalls selling food and drinks before you head up to the temple. Grab a snack if you’re hungry, and then it’s time to climb the 306-step staircase (or take the funicular). The staircase is flanked by beautiful jeweled naga (ornate serpents) and as you walk, the majestic staircase is a great spot to take pictures.
The well-known Hmong village in Chiang Mai, Doi Pui, near Doi Suthep temple, is heavily promoted for tourism and primarily features souvenir stalls that provide income for villagers. Visitors can buy souvenirs to directly support the community. The village also has a small museum displaying artifacts from various hill tribes and a manicured garden where traditional Hmong costumes are available for fun photo shoots.
