Royal Chiang Mai Golf Resort is one of the original modern-day golf courses in Chiang Mai. It was established and opened in 1996.

The course was designed by Peter Thomson, a legendary Australian golfer and golf course architect who won The Open Championship (British Open) five times. His design philosophy for this course was inspired by the traditional British Parkland courses, with some interesting “links” additions.

The course is located in the Mae Rim district of Chiang Mai, about 40 minutes north of the city center. It is set within a valley and surrounded by the scenic mountains of Northern Thailand. The layout is heavily tree-lined, and water hazards come into play on almost every hole, providing both a beautiful setting and a significant challenge.

The course is known for its “true-to-the-word” rough and its unique design features, which utilize the natural terrain, including waterfalls and streams. These elements, combined with its challenging par-5s, make it a memorable experience for both amateur and professional golfers.
