The Chiang Mai Night Safari, located in the Mae Hia sub-district of Chiang Mai, is managed by the Zoological Park Organization. Opened to the public on November 18, 2005, and officially inaugurated on February 6, 2006, it is Thailand’s first and the world’s largest nocturnal zoo, covering 819 Rai. The idea for the safari was proposed by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to create a high-quality tourist attraction similar to successful ones in Singapore. After considering various locations, it was built at the foot of Doi Suthep within Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, with adjusted operating hours for both day and night visitors.
