Doi Inthanon National Park is a very popular tourist destination in Chiang Mai, also known as “The Roof of Thailand” because it is home to the country’s highest peak.
The park covers an area of 482 square kilometers and is part of the Himalayan mountain range.
Elevations range from 800 to 2,565 meters above sea level.
It was named after King Inthawichayanon, who aimed to preserve the northern forests.
The climate is cool all year round, with diverse flora such as cloud forests and sphagnum bogs.
The rainy season is from May to October, while November to February is dry and colder.
The King and Queen Pagodas (Naphamethinidon and Naphaphone Phumi Siri): Built to honor the 60th birthday anniversaries of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (1987) and Queen Sirikit (1992), respectively. They are a popular spot for watching the sunset.
Ang Ka Luang Nature Trail: A 366-meter-long boardwalk trail that takes about 30 minutes to complete. Located at about 2,500 meters above sea level, it features a natural pond considered the highest in Thailand. The weather here is mild throughout the year.
Wachirathan Waterfall: A waterfall with a cumulative height of 80 meters, located on the way up to Doi Inthanon’s summit.
Hmong Market: A market selling souvenirs and local products.
Ban Mae Klang Luang Village: A Karen village that switched from growing opium to creative agriculture under the guidance of King Rama IX. It is now an agri-tourism destination with traditional coffee shops and rice terraces.
