Chiang – Rai 1-day trip

  • Hot spring

Mae Khachan Hot Springs is in Wiang Pa Pao, Chiang Rai. The thermal waters can be experienced at a number of locations in this district, but for the onward traveler, this means right next to the main Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai Highway 118 (on both sides of the road).

There are trinkets and souvenirs for sale, of course, but you can also find some local fruit. Chiang Rai is famous for a pineapple cultivar with small-sized fruit (great if someone else cuts it!) – the hot springs markets will definitely have pineapple in season.

More importantly, you can stretch your legs. There are restrooms, and convenience stores if you need to restock for drinks or snacks.

  • White Temple

Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple, is a privately owned art exhibit in the style of a Buddhist temple in Pa O Don Chai, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. It is owned by Chalermchai Kositpipat, who designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors in 1997.

By the end of the 20th century, the original Wat Rong Khun was in a bad state of repair. Funds were not available for renovation. Chalermchai Kositpipat, a local artist from Chiang Rai, decided to completely rebuild the temple and fund the project with his own money. To date, Chalermchai has spent THB 1,080 million on the project. The artist intends for the area adjacent to the temple to be a center of learning and meditation and for people to gain benefit from the Buddhist teachings. Kositpipat considers the temple to be an offering to Lord Buddha and believes the project will give him immortal life.

  • 5 villages

Chiang Rai’s proximity to China, Laos and Myanmar, means that, historically, the hill tribes crossed over the borders to settle in the highland areas of Chiang Rai. An ecotourism attraction. Visit and discover authentic hill tribe villages and daily lifestyle. The Long Neck Karen, Akha, Lahu, Palong, and Mien (Yao) villages can all be found here. There is a souvenir shop selling handmade items from 5 different tribes. You can buy as you like.  It is to help them with various expenses.

  • Maesai

Mae Sai Market, or Tachileik Market, has been a popular shopping district of Chiang Rai for decades. It is located just between the border of Thailand and Myanmar. The market sells many products, including jewelry and gemstones like rubies and jade. You can also find electric appliances, clothing and accessories for both kids and adults, shoes, bags, winter jackets, fun kids’ toys, and a lot of snacks and dried goods. Therefore, you should feel the contemporary commercial smell of these two nations at the same time.

  • Golden Triangle + Lunch

The Golden Triangle is the area where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet at the Ruak and Mekong rivers. Chiang Rai province in northern Thailand is the gateway to this unique region in Southeast Asia.

Nearby lies the Phra Chiang Saen Sii Pandin, a gigantic golden Buddha image seated on a platform shaped like a boat. The boat is perhaps even more dazzling than the Buddha statue itself. Ornately decorated with colorful stained-glass, the huge boat sits right on the very edge of the river, glistening proudly in the sun.
